Abstract The author describes job burnout, which is receiving increasing recognition as a major problem for both individuals and organizations. He recommends incorporating the social-styles model as part of the analysis and treatment of job burnout. He argues that the social-styles model can provide new insights into the causes, symptoms, individual differences in responding to social support, and individual differences in communication patterns by individuals who are burned out.
